C: Bake Sale

CREATIVITY

PROJECT 1: BAKE SALE

INTRODUCTION

This activity consisted on organizing a bake sale in the school. The goods were all homemade and both the lower school and the upper school were able to purchase them to help our fundraising campaign. The money raised will now be used to send materials to a poor Indian school.

REFLECTIONS

This has been my first official CAS activity, as a whole and in the creativity area. Adding to that, it was a group activity that involved the whole class' participation. I clearly think that I have achieved all the proposed learning outcomes with this wonderful experience.
Below are my reflections on this activity.

First of all, only the fact of doing a bake sale was tremendously exciting. This has been something that we have grown up with; as we saw the "big kids" organizing their bake sales. I have always wanted to organize our very own bake sale, and I have finally been granted my wish.

Adding to this, the fact that the money raised in the bake sale was going to be used for a good cause, made me feel proud of my class and overall happy. The feeling of working for others who can't do it for themselves is a very rewarding one. Now that we have raised the money, we are going to invite all parents in the school to donate some basic school materials for the poor children in this Indian school; and use the money for the shipping costs to send the recollected items to India.

There is a very famous saying in Spanish that says "Es mejor dar que recibir". It means that giving is better than receiving, and with this experience I have learned the value of that saying, and how every word of it is completely true.

Finally, I would also like to mention the creative aspect of this activity. This activity was very creative, as we had to organize the bake sale in the first place, decide on which person brought what, come up with an original idea for your dish and set up the sale itself. Baking my homemade goods was the best part, as I met with several friends to cook together and had a great time.

Overall, this whole activity has been amazing. My CAS Experience surely looks promising!

These are some pictures of the kids in the poor Indian school. Every minute I spent working for their cause was definitely worthwhile.
