Halloween Photocall
Introduction
For this Halloween, some of the 12th grade members will be preparing a photocall for everybody in the Halloween party to enjoy. Konstantina is the leader of this activity and will be the one organizing it. She will design the photocall and we will help paint it and prepare it.
We will then take it to the Halloween party at school and will wait for anybody who wants to take pictures to come. We will also ask for donations from whoever is willing and will then decide where to donate all the money collected.
This will make the activity both a creativity and service activity.
My Goals
My goals for this activity are:
- to take out my more creative side and get out of the academic-related stress cycle
- to contribute to the school’s Halloween party and try to make all attendees have fun
- to help the chosen organization by donating whatever money we make
- to have fun creating and organizing the photocall
ANTICIPATED LEARNING OUTCOMES
2. Undertake new challenges
I definitely haven’t either painted, organized or stood at a photocall. Not to say a Halloween-themed photocall! I am ready for the challenge.
3. Planned and initiated activities
Together with my classmates, we have initiated this activity; and by meeting in our free period we will finish planning and completing the activity.
4. Worked collaboratively with others
I will work with my classmates when preparing the photocall, and will work with everybody who is interested in making use of it during the Halloween party.
5. Shown perseverance and commitment in their activities
I will dedicate my free periods to preparing the photocall and will dedicate my Sunday to take part in the execution of the photocall, therefore showing perseverance and commitment in my activities.
7. Considered the ethical implications of their actions
We will have to take into account our actions when preparing the photocall, as it must be appropriate for all age groups. We must make it appealing to everybody, and think about the little ones in order to not make it too scary. We must also consider the ethical implications of our action when deciding which organization is appropriate to donate our money.
8. Developed new skills
You never know, I might learn some new artistic skills if I’m led by the great artist Konstantina. I may also learn some new skills related to organization or public relations when presenting the photocall to the public in the actual Halloween party. Reflections

Today we worked on the photocall for the first time! Konstantina managed to get some gigantic cardboard boxes and we spent the last 45 minutes transporting them to the library, opening them and cutting them to the necessary size. We then started to work on the supports to maintain the cardboard standing. However, the boxes didn't arrive until quite late, so we couldn't use the whole 45 minutes, so we didn't advance that much.
On the other hand, we did start brainstorming on what we want to draw on the photocall. We finally decided to make it double the size we were initially planning to, which is very exciting! We are going to draw a photocall and cut holes for the faces for the people to take pictures behind the cardboard. We thought about painting a Frankenstein and a skeleton in a less spooky way by painting them dancing. By painting them in a more friendly way, we are considering the ethical implications of our actions as we want all kids to be able to enjoy the photocall and not be scared or offended by our creation. We also thought about painting a witch riding a broom, pumpkins and many other ideas!
My colleagues also worked on Thursday, but I was unable to go as I had an Extended Essay meeting... Here are some photos of the day!

Today we kept working on our photocall and we were quite productive (taking into account that it was last period on a Friday...). We started constructing our second cardboard for the other half of the photocall and cutting the holes for the faces on our first cardboard! Finally, we also printed out some inspiration images to see what we were going to draw on the cardboard and even started drawing the Frankenstein.
It was loads of fun as it helped me start achieving one of my goals of "getting out of the academic stress cycle" as it took my mind off things as this week has been one of the most stressful weeks of all my IB year and a bit...
So it's great that I am getting to collaborate in this project. Below are some pictures of my great task as the cutter-lady, as I got to cut the holes for the faces, and Konstantina starting to draw Frankenstein.
Talk to you soon!

Sad news...
Due to my levels of work and stress, I decided to abandon this project. It was something that I didn't want to do, but I felt like it was't one of my priorities. In order to be a part of this project, I had to dedicate many 45 minute periods + come to school on Saturday to finish it + come on Sunday to the actual Halloween party. But I DIDN'T.
During all that time that I should have been dedicating to this project, I was working on my Extended Essay and my TOK Presentation. I spent all three days of the weekend working on TOK, not to forget about my normal homework.
Basically, I was dying, and I didn't have time for this. Therefore, I thought that abandoning this project (even if I didn't want to) was the right thing to do.
However, not having been able to complete this activity doesn't mean that I didn't learn anything from this experience. I was able to achieve some of my goals in the brief time that I did participate in this activity...

- ...even if it was just for a couple of days!
I also learned how in life, sometimes you can't do everything and you have to learn to prioritize. Even though you might not want to, you have to learn to leave things when you can't cope with everything, instead of killing yourself trying and not being able to do anything well.
All in all, this activity was clearly a learning experience.
And the photocall ended up looking great!
